Gut Health
Our bodies house many different types of bacteria – in fact, our bodies have more bacteria that we have cells. Most are good for you, and the bacteria found in your gut not only help you digest foods, they work all over your body and gut health is important for your overall physical and mental health.

What is the Gut Microbiome?

The Gut Microbiome is the home base for the bacteria in your digestive tract. The microorganisms that makeup the microbiome are involved in functions that are critical to your health and wellbeing. Here, they help you break down food and turn nutrients into things your body can use. The microbiome is also involved in many other important processes that extend beyond your gut, including:

  • Metabolism & Body Weight: An unhealthy balance in your gut microbiome may cause crossed signals from your brain when it comes to feeling hungry or full. Research shows there may be a link to the pituitary gland, which makes hormones that help set your appetite.
  • Brain Functions: Your brain sends messages all over your body. Researchers believe your gut may talk back, and studies show that the balance of bacteria in the gut microbiome may affect our emotions and the way your brain processes information from your senses. This can include conditions like autism spectrum disorder, anxiety and depression as well as chronic pain and fatigue.
  • Heart: Some kinds of gut bacteria may be part of the link cholesterol has to heart disease. When you eat foods like red meat or eggs, those bacteria make a chemical that your liver turns into something called TMAO. This may help cholesterol build up in your blood vessels.
  • Kidneys: Too much TMAO may also lead to chronic kidney disease because people who have the disease don’t get rid of TMAO like they should.

What to Know About Leaky Gut

If your gut barrier is weakened then small particles, like bacteria or small bits of food are able to escape into your bloodstream where they are marked as intruders and trigger your immune system into action. This can be a factor in disease and the continuous immune activation and inflammation that goes with it puts you at a greater risk for a range of diseases and can compromise both our physical and mental health. Other root causes for immune dysfunction can be hormone imbalance, food sensitivities and infection. This weakening can be caused by lots of things including: stress, illness, being overweight, overuse of antibiotics, or eating a poor quality diet.

How to Improve Gut Health

There are several different ways you can work toward improving your gut health. Eating a well-rounded, CLEAN, healthy diet is one of the most important factors. High quality probiotics, phosphatidylcholine and sodium butyrate are cornerstones of our GI Health protocols. Probiotics can also add to the bacteria in your intestinal tract and help keep everything in balance. They can help make your immune system stronger and boost gastrointestinal health as well.

Butyrate is made by your gut microbiome and has many critical actions within the human body, especially for digestive health, promoting brain health and defending against disease. Butyrate is crucial for repairing the gut lining and cellular health within it. It also promotes a healthy inflammatory response to guard the body from illnesses while also improving immune response
Butyrate may help repair the damage caused by pesticides, toxins, processed foods, and drugs.

Phosphatidylcholine supports your body by giving your cells the boost needed to work better, which supports every system in your body. As we age phosphatidylcholine decreases. More and more doctors are recommending supplementation with PC to help support our cells at any age. Whether you’re dealing with digestive, immune or cognitive issues or wanting to prevent problems in the future, studies show increased levels of PC can help the body heal while also improving memory, mental focus and brain function.

Regen IV Wellness provides a high-dose probiotic and supplements that can aid in the goal of strengthening your overall gut health. For more information, you can call Regen IV Wellness at 214.326.0033.
