Managing Stress During the Holidays
We are only a few days away from Christmas and it is normal to start feeling the stress and burn-out from those high expectations, lengthy task lists and last-minute errands. While you may feel as though there is no relief until after the holiday season, there are some actions you can take now that can greatly improve your mood and help you enjoy the holiday season the way it was meant to be enjoyed!

Meditation & Deep Breathing

Sometimes just slowing down is the best way to reduce stress in the moment and can help change your overall mood. When chaos swarms, we recommend taking 5 minutes alone for some deep breathing exercises. Whether you are sitting in your car or slowing your morning down and finding a quiet place to think, we recommend closing your eyes, taking five slow deep breaths and reminding yourself what the true meaning of Christmas is to you. 

Don’t just take our word for it! There are many studies that have shown that meditation and activities such as yoga and deep breathing can reduce stress, control anxiety, enhance self-awareness and can actually lengthen your attention span – which will get you back to accomplishing your task list with ease and focus. 

Get Outside

Moving your body and getting outside are great ways to reduce that sluggish, stressed-out feeling that becomes prevalent during the holiday season. Whether you have time for an hour stroll or just a few minutes to sit outside and soak in the nature around you, there is true power and healing in getting outside. 

Try the grounding method which encourages you to be one with nature. Take off your shoes and feel the ground beneath your feet as you take deep breaths and begin to feel the stress melt away. A recent Japanese study has shown that just short periods of being outside can reduce cortisol levels – the natural chemical found in your body that causes stress.
