Obesity and Functional Medicine

9/23/2019

Comments

At Regen IV Wellness, we believe in using functional medicine, nourishing the body from the inside out, to achieve overall health and wellness; drinking plenty of water, eating the right foods, supplementing with vitamins and minerals, and getting adequate exercise.
According to the CDC, in a 2015 study,  39.6% of Americans are obese.
That is 93.3 million Americans with a BMI over 30.
That is 93.3 million Americans with a higher risk of disease and premature death.
That is 93.3 million Americans living an unsatisfactory lifestyle.

The main factors that contribute to obesity are:
1. Our behavior (such as diet and physical activity)
2. Influences from our community and environment
3. Genetics
4. Certain diseases
Functional Medicine Dallas
Though some of these factors are out of our control, like our genetics, the most influential factors are things we can control.  Just by making small lifestyle changes we can have a huge impact on our overall health; drinking more water, moving more, removing processed foods from our diet.  Incorporating regular IV vitamin supplements and hydration can support a healthy lifestyle by boosting metabolism, improving sleep, and making your body operate at its highest capacity.  This can help make your healthy diet and active lifestyle more successful, enjoyable, and rewarding.

What are some small, yet huge, changes you can make in your lifestyle?

IV Ozone Therapy

Picture
We've already introduced some of the benefits of vitamin therapy, but that's just one type of service we offer at Regen IV Wellness. Ozone therapy is becoming more popular as the benefits of this holistic approach are more apparent.  Ozone therapy comes in many forms and treats a wide variety of ailments. At Regen IV Wellness, we use IV ozone therapy to facilitate treatment of conditions such as infections, autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular disease, and more.  The possibilities of ozone therapy are virtually endless due to the immune response generated by the therapy.

Ozone gas (O3) as a medical treatment and therapy has been used in the functional medicine community since the 1840s.  Due to its unstable molecular structure and misunderstanding as an air pollutant, it was labeled as an ineffective and unreliable form of treatment and therapy; however, through modern-day research and the increased collection of clinical data since it’s early use, evidence shows O3 is effective in treating immune dysfunction and acute and chronic disease.

The Power of B12 Vitamin Therapy

What is B12?
B12 is an essential vitamin that is found in many of the foods we eat such as organ meats and dairy. The cool thing about B12 is that your body uses what it needs throughout the day, and stores the leftovers for use later. Unfortunately, most people don't consume enough of the vitamin the body needs.  The signs of B12 deficiency include:
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Numbness or tingling
  • Memory fog
  • Shortness of breath

There are many benefits to supplementing with B12 including increased energy levels, better mood, improved sleep, and even boosting metabolism and assisting with weight loss.  No wonder this is one of the most popular injections.

Types of B12
There are 3 common forms of B12: methylcobalamin, hydroxocobalamin, and cyanocobalamin.
We often get asked which form of B12 is the best. This question can have a different answer depending on the usage.  First and foremost, we place our integrity on superior quality.  At Regen IV Wellness, we only use METHYLcobalamin B12 for injections, and HYDROXOcobalamin B12 for IVs.  The truth is all forms of B12 are synthetically made in a lab. The differences lie in how the body processes each type.  CYANOcobalamin is inexpensive, slightly toxic but more stable with a cyanide molecule leading to a longer shelf life. We don’t recommend it for ANYONE especially those with MTHFR gene dysfunction. METHYLcobalamin is more bioactive and the same B12 form found in the blood as well as a cofactor in two enzymes. It is the Kingpin being the most effective and shows the greatest utilization in the body. We use it in our IV cocktails, Prolozone, and injections. HYDROXOcobalamin is the MOST active form and predominant form found in B12 rich foods. It has a higher affinity for plasma proteins and lasts longer in the body requiring less injections. We use it in select IV cocktails only.
Methyl B12
Who Can Benefit From B12?
B12 injections are great for everyone; especially teachers heading back to school, parents with small children who are in daycare or school, anyone entering cold and flu season, and professionals who are in contact with large groups of people. It's basically a great vitamin supplement for ANYONE to take on a regular basis to set the body up for success.

The Importance of Healthy Eating

9/5/2019

Comments

At Regen IV Wellness, we believe in nourishing your body inside and out.  Getting the proper nutrients in your diet is critical to living your healthiest life.  Intravenous vitamins and minerals can help support your healthy lifestyle, but YOU must put in the work by ensuring your diet and activity levels are in line.  There’s no magic pill or procedure that will undo poor diet and exercise.  Poor diet can result in chronic disease, depression, and overall lifestyle discomfort.

A few ways you can improve your diet are:
  • Meal prepping instead of eating out.  I prep my lunch for the week and portion it out ahead of time so I’m less likely to do the convenient thing and hit up the drive thru.  Keep reading to find out what I made for my lunches this week and the recipe.
  • Shop the perimeter of the grocery store instead of the processed-laden interior.  Grocery store designers are some of the smartest marketing manipulators around.  The whole, raw foods are located around the outside aisles of the store; ironically, they're also the more affordable food items.  Stick to these aisles for most of your groceries and you’ll save yourself from spending more calories and more money on junk foods.
  • Drink plenty of water.  Many times, we confuse thirst with hunger and reach for a bag of potato chips instead of our water bottle.  If you read our last post, you know what dehydration does to the body. Make sure you stay hydrated to keep from snacking on the bad stuff and make your body function at top capacity.
Healthy Shrimp Dish
Shrimp with Cauliflower Rice
Spicy Shrimp and Cauliflower Rice Stirfry
This recipe is inspired by one of my favorite dishes at Snappy Salads.  It’s quick and easy to make, portion out for the week, and reheats well.

1 tbsp coconut oil
1 red bell pepper chopped
1 medium onion chopped
1 zucchini diced
1 yellow squash diced
1 tbsp minced garlic
20 raw shrimp (I use frozen)
1 cup riced cauliflower (I use Costco frozen proportioned)

For the sauce:
1 tbsp minced ginger
2 tbsp Sriracha (more or less depending on spice level)
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp coconut aminos or soy sauce
1 tbsp rice vinegar

Heat a skillet with coconut oil.
  1. Add bell pepper, onion, zucchini, and squash until soft.
  2. Add garlic and stir until fragrant.
  3. Add shrimp and cover for 2-3 minutes (check at 2 minutes, if still translucent continue cooking for additional time until pink throughout.)
  4. While shrimp is cooking, mix sauce ingredients in a small bowl and set aside.
  5. Heat riced cauliflower per instructions.
  6. When shrimp is done, drain off excess liquid and pour sauce mixture into shrimp mixture.  Stir to coat.
  7. Portion riced cauliflower and top with shrimp mixture.  Enjoy!
